Recently the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been overjoyed by the form of January signing Cenk Tosun but they continue to reminisce about the days when they had Romelu Lukaku leading the line.
It was always going to be an impossible task to replace the big Belgian and Everton found this out the hard way. Thinking that a strike force of Sandro, Wayne Rooney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be adequate for the Premier League was a rookie mistake and the Toffee’s paid the price for it at the start of the season, placing near the relegation zone.
Luckily their fortunes revived and the Toffees now comfortably sit mid-table but the Everton supporters in the Tavern are demanding more, insisting that a good transfer window will help progress the team further.
It has only been in the last handful of games that Tosun has started to perform well for Everton so they cannot rely on him given that he is still new to the Premier League. With little available in England though, we believe the Toffees should explore the wider world of football and target sharp-shooting Russian – Aleksandr Kokorin, a player valued at £9.90 million on Transfermarkt.
Zenit’s leading man has again been in inspired form this term, scoring 19 goals in 35 appearances so far. Teams in England are always cautious of the fact that it takes time for foreign players to adapt to the Premier League, as presented perfectly by Sandro Ramirez. On the other hand, our punters are keen to think the same wouldn’t happen with Kokorin given that he has bagged goals year in, year out in Russia.
Whether Everton will be willing to test their luck with another player who hasn’t played in England is hard to call but Kokorin is still only 27, with years ahead to improve his game and Everton’s European hopes.
