Sporting Lisbon will not be taking up the option to buy Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, according to reports.
The DR Congo international has been with the Portuguese outfit for the 2019/20 campaign and it was initially reported that they did not like him as a player. Regardless of this, Bolasie has still made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring just two goals and providing five assists, as per TransferMarkt. Before his move to Portugal, he also had spells at Aston Villa and Belgian side Anderlecht, where he only scored eight goals and provided eight assists combined during the 2018/19 season.
But according to A Bola (via Sport Witness), Sporting do not have the funds to push through a permanent deal for Bolasie, with the £3.8m (€4.5m) buying clause and Bolasie’s salary, which would be £3.4m (€4m). Despite this, Leões would be open for another loan spell, though it remains to be seen as to whether that would work for the Toffees.
It is unlikely that Carlo Ancelotti will want the 30-year-old midfielder on the back of three mediocre loan spells, especially given he has the likes of Bernard, Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott available in wide areas ahead of the summer transfer window, during which he will surely look to stamp his own image onto the squad as well.
Moving Bolasie off the wage bill is obviously preferable, making the fact that his current club seemingly cannot afford to sign him on a permanent basis rather frustrating.
