After a promising start, Richarlison’s not lived up to expectations this season. One man that would make a huge impact though is PSV speedster Steven Bergwijn.
The 21-year-old has scored 13 and assisted 12 in 29 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, and that’s a tally that anyone in Everton’s squad would dream about. It’s certainly what the Goodison faithful have been dreaming of for years.
Theo Walcott and Richarlison just haven’t cut it this campaign. The whole squad has been very hit and miss, so it’s time to invest and put some pressure on their underperforming stars. ESPN reported a couple of months ago that Everton intend to do just that, by bringing in Bergwijn.
He’s got Champions League experience and has youth on his side. They’re two key traits alongside his proven pace and assist contributions. The club want to get back into Europe and build a squad for the future, and Bergwijn can take them to this level.
It’d be a real statement signing considering his European pedigree and his £27m valuation, according to Transfermarkt. The fans want to see a clear progression in their project season on season, and this would be a step forward before the next campaign even begins.
Marco Silva will demand signings in the summer, and if they can capture Bergwijn’s signature it might just spell the start of their long-awaited return to the top of the league. Goodison expects. The board must deliver.
