TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan believes Everton should seek the services of Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa if they decide to part ways with Marco Silva.
Bielsa was a high-profile arrival at second-tier Leeds at the start of last season with the Yorkshire side attempting to secure promotion to the Premier League – and Jordan believes the Argentinian is exactly the kind of candidate the Toffees need to take the club forward.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “You need to find the type of manager who is going to invigorate the squad, invigorate the boardroom and invigorate the fans.
“There is no reason why Everton shouldn’t be able to attract an elite manager to come to the club.
“When you talk about Marcelo Bielsa managing Leeds, why wouldn’t he be managing a team like Everton?
“That’s the sort of appointment in terms of quality of thinking that would ultimately take Everton forward.”
With Bielsa’s track record in mind, there is plenty to suggest that the 64-year-old has what it takes to be a success in the blue half of Liverpool.
The Argentinian’s background in international football leaves him no stranger to the big occasions, while his current stint at Elland Road is delivering his highest points-per-game total since ending his most recent international spell with Chile in 2011.
Bielsa’s own future at Leeds was under threat in the summer after the Whites were unsuccessful in last season’s play-offs, so it may not be totally surprising if the same situation occurs should they fail to gain promotion again this term.
With Silva’s period at the club arguably at its lowest ebb, it seems a change may be required soon as they sit fourth from bottom in the Premier League.
However, whether Bielsa would abandon ship with Leeds flying high in the Championship’s promotion places is something the likes of Bill Kenwright may have to consider if ‘El Loco’ is among the candidates to replace the beleaguered Portuguese.
