Everton are still in the running to sign Brazilian winger Éverton Soares, who is reportedly patiently waiting for offers.
According to Globo Esporte (via Sport Witness), links between Everton and the Grêmio attacker have not subsided and the club are still interested in acquiring his services. Meanwhile, Éverton Soares is reportedly aware of several clubs monitoring him and is waiting for offers to be presented in the upcoming window.
Will Everton qualify for Europe next season?
If the Blues want to secure the 24-year-old’s signature in the summer, they will have to beat the likes of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund, who are also keen on the Brazilian. The Italians have already reportedly prepared a bid of €25m (£22.3m) for Éverton, as per Globo Esporte.
Grêmio have played just two matches in the Brasileiro this season but their star winger has scored one goal in those two appearances already. Éverton’s last two seasons have been extremely impressive, seeing him accumulate 41 goal contributions in that time. Last campaign he notched 15 goals and seven assists across all competitions – his 10 goals in the league placed him ninth in the table of top scorers (via Transfermarkt).
Signing the clinical winger would be a huge piece of business from Carlo Ancelotti, but it could be bad news for Alex Iwobi.
The former Arsenal man is one of just two left wingers currently at Goodison Park but he has failed to have much of an impact this season. Bernard is Everton’s other choice on the left-hand side, who has contributed to more Premier League goals (five) than Iwobi (one).
If the Éverton Soares links come to fruition, the Nigeria international could see even less game-time next season after falling down the pecking order. Iwobi has been with the club for less than 12 months but already his future could be in question.
If Ancelotti opts to bring in a proven goal-scoring and creative winger this summer, the 24-year-old Nigerian might be forced to reconsider his future at the Merseyside club.
