The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are happy to have seen their team once again pick up some form just before the season draws to its conclusion.
The rollercoaster season for the Toffees will soon be over and considering the abysmal start Everton endured, they have certainly done well to achieve a top ten finish in the Premier League. With every season though, Everton realise it’s just another year closer to Leighton Baines leaving the club, something which would prove to be a sad day for the club.
Our punters, mind you, think that Baines’ absence will be quickly forgotten should Everton sign Porto left-back Alex Telles in his place. Rated at £14.4 million by Transfer Markt, the Brazilian has proven this season that he should be rated at a much higher price-tag than that.
The 25-year-old has so far featured in 43 games for the Portuguese giants this season, scoring four times but amazingly assisting 19 goals.
Some may say that the Portuguese league is not yet at the level of the English top flight and they may be right, however, Telles has the look of a determined player who will continue his progression.
Leighton Baines has been a wonderful servant to Everton for a number of years and his replacement will have to be top-notch if the Toffees want to return to the side challenging for European football. At only 25, Alex Telles not only has years ahead of him to improve but already is a top player for one of the better teams in football.
He’d be the perfect replacement for Baines, combining a fantastic mix of defensive quality and offensive skill.
