This year was set up to be the year that Everton were pushing for a place in the top four but in reality, it was been the biggest rollercoaster season in a long while. It’s safe to say the Toffees here at the Transfer Tavern haven’t enjoyed it but now they know under the sturdy guidance of Sam Allardyce, they will remain in the Premier League for another year.
The arrival of Big Sam was greeted with a very mixed response, some questioning the ambition of the club, others realising that at the time Everton were sitting right above the relegation zone. A big summer clear-out is needed at Goodison Park but most importantly Everton should be aiming to bring new talent into the club.
Our punters believe that young Mouctar Diakhaby of Lyon would be a great signing, with the future in mind as well as the present. The 21-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed another good season at the heart of defence, making 20 appearances in all competitions of which just five of those games have resulted in Lyon losing the game.
The big, commanding centre-back is already an established player in the French league and Everton could really do with a natural-born leader like Diakhaby. Considering his valuation on Transfermarkt is just £12.60 million, the Toffees should be all over that deal trying to get it done.
There is no need to remind Everton fans how bad their team has been defensively at times this year and the young upcoming Mouctar Diakhaby is a player that the Toffees would be familiar with due to playing against the strong defender in the Europa League.
