Yerry Mina has opened up about his impressive early-season form, speaking to Everton’s official channels.
The Colombian cited Marco Silva as one of the main reasons behind the improvement, stating: “I feel very good, the manager is working with me every day and giving me a lot of confidence, I am understanding more what he wants all the time and becoming more comfortable.
“This is my best football since I came to Everton but I have to keep my focus and always work to improve.”
Mina has played all 180 minutes of Everton’s Premier League campaign so far this season, as per WhoScored, with the Toffees having not conceded a goal.
The Colombian has averaged 2 tackles, 2 interceptions and 6.5 clearances per game, while also winning 4.5 aerials duels.
WhoScored gave him the second-highest rating of any Everton player against Crystal Palace and the third-best in the 1-0 win against Watford, with his overall rating between the two games averaging 7.53.
This start is a definite improvement on his numbers at Everton from last season, as in 2018/19 he averaged 1.1 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 3.8 clearances, while his average match rating was 6.57.
With Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson as the club’s main centre-back cover, Everton will likely be relying on Mina and his partner Michael Keane for most of the season, so it is encouraging that they have started well.
Mina has been impressive for Everton this season and it is vital for their chances that he carries on the good form he has displayed so far.
The Colombian and his teammates will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of clean sheets when they face Aston Villa on Friday.
