Everton supporters have been pretty frustrated in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team produce a largely flat display to only draw 1-1 with Premier League strugglers Swansea City on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their encounter in South Wales having drawn 0-0 with Merseyside rivals Liverpool in their previous league outing, yet having won their last away game courtesy of a 2-1 success at Stoke City in mid-March. And the Toffees looked set for back-to-back wins on the road when a Kyle Naughton own goal gave them the lead at the Liberty Stadium, only for Jordan Ayew to equalise 19 minutes from time to preserve a point for Carlos Carvalhal’s side, thus keeping Everton in ninth place in the Premier League table.
As such, there have been many disappointed Toffees fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping that their side can get back to winning ways when they return to Goodison Park against Newcastle United on Monday.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Evertonians to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that RB Leipzig are seeking a permanent move for Ademola Lookman this summer, what with the Toffees winger having spent the second half of this season at the Bundesliga club.
Yet Allardyce’s side should forget about even contemplating selling the 20-year-old, as there is only one attacker who Everton should be getting rid of this summer, namely Kevin Mirallas.
The 30-year-old made the move to Merseyside back in 2012 and, although he made a decent start to life in the Premier League in his first few years at the club, he hasn’t been anywhere near that level in recent times.
In fact, the Belgium international was so low down Allardyce’s pecking order that he was shipped out on loan to former club Olympiakos back in January, although reports recently suggested that the Greek side will not seek a permanent move for the winger this summer.
As such, Mirallas looks set to return to Goodison Park, but with Theo Walcott having joined from Arsenal earlier this year, and Yannick Bolasie returning from injury this term, he will find it extremely difficult to command regular football at the Merseysiders.
Add in Lookman and Nikola Vlasic, who have youth on their side and have undoubted potential, and Mirallas’ prospects at Everton look very bleak indeed, which could ultimately result in the 30-year-old seeing his six-year stay at Goodison Park come to an end this summer.
Thus, the Toffees simply must forget about selling Lookman this summer, as there is only one attacker who they should be getting rid of – Mirallas.
