Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see who their side signs in the summer window with them looking set for a rather exciting time of things.
Indeed, the Toffees are well aware that they need to go big in the summer window in order to try and break into the top six in the Premier League and that looks like that is the plan.
Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen have already arrived in significant moves and the club is being continually linked with other stars that could help bolster them further.
The bookies, meanwhile, have them named as strong contenders for Chris Smalling’s signature with Paddy Power having them at 7/2 favourites (at the time of writing.)
For sure, Smalling – as a Premier League title winner – would be a decent enough addition, you feel, to the club’s ranks but we think that if the Blues are going to go after a top centre-half, Michael Keane should be ahead on the list.
Indeed, whilst Smalling has the CV at the moment you have to say that, aside from that, Keane is the one that has the buzz around him and had the better season last time out.
And, in addition to that, it’s Keane who looks the most likely to get even better whilst Smalling has, arguably, reached the peak of his powers.
It would make sense, then, for a club as hungry and ambitious as Everton, to go for the Burnley man over the man from Manchester United.
