The Reds looked light up top at White Hart Lane yesterday and Fernando Torres will be desperate to have some pressure taken off him.
Hodgson has been linked to several options and has been thought to have considered 6ft 3in CSKA Moscow target man Tomas Necid.
However, 5ft 8in Kleber has been linked to the club previously and Palmeiras are now ready to let him leave on the cheap after crashing out of the Copa Sudamericana.
Though, Kleber had previously taken the eye of Toffees manager David Moyes and striking worries at Goodison may force the Scotman’s hand.
I could be a fierce affair but the Reds will be favourites to secure the Brazilian’s services. It was revealed that Liverpool had made a £6million bid for his services last year whilst still at Cruzeiro.
When Kleber joined Palmeiras he became one of their highest paid players and due to financial implications he may be laid off to ease the Sao Paulo club’s wage bill even though he is their top scorer with 10 goals this season.
The 27-year-old is under contract until 2014 but he has claimed he is owed three months’ salary. If proven true, the Brazilian may be able to leave the club for free.
Kleber has previously played in Europe at Dynamo Kyiv where he averaged a goal every other game during a four year spell in Europe. Great news for Merseysiders is that the Brazilian will also not require a work permit as he has an Italian passport.
Agents at the ready boys! Watch this space come January.
