With all the focus of some Premier League clubs falling on Tanguy Ndombele, Marco Silva should be clever and encourage Everton to sign another Lyon midfielder in Houssem Aouar.
The pair made all the headlines following Tuesday night’s Champions League draw with Manchester City after a superb performance that even saw City boss Pep Guardiola sing the praises of Aouar.
Ndombele has been linked with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton even before Tuesday’s clash but Silva should rather give up on this idea and shift the club’s focus to Aouar instead.
The 20-year-old (valued at £31.05m by Transfermarkt) has been equally impressive for the French club this season but is a bit more attacking than his Lyon teammate.
The fact that big-name clubs are interested in the former suggests that huge sums of money will be spent on him if one of them agree a fee for him, where Aouar might be relatively cheaper.
Everton showed in the summer that they’re well prepared for the break the bank for the players Silva needs but getting Aouar for a reasonable fee would be a greater deal of business.
Aouar, who came through the Lyon ranks before signing a first-team contract in 2016, has proven to be one of the most exciting midfielders in League 1 with his pinpoint passing and composed ability to find the back of the net when given the opportunity.
The game against City also showed how good he can be with his feet due the skill he possesses, making him difficult to defend against in a one-on-one situation.
Apart from the threat going forward, Aouar is strong defensively as well as brilliant at reading the game.
All these attributes are backed by the 100% commitment he shows when taking the pitch and could be as an exciting player for the Toffees as there has ever been.
Silva’s quest to find the right combinations in the midfield and going forward would be massively boosted if Aouar does indeed decide to move to Goodison Park.
