According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, midfielder Aaron Ramsey could be set for a move away in the near future. The 27-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League giants Arsenal and has done so since 2008, in which time he has been a great servant to the Gunners in accumulating 338 appearances for the club.

Yet reports suggest that there is no longer a contract offer on the table for the £40.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt), which means the Wales international could leave in January in a cut-price deal or even on a free come the end of the season when his current deal expires.

And Marco Silva’s Everton should be one side keeping a very close eye on things, as if the Toffees harbour genuine ambitions of challenging the top six in the years to come, they have to sign players of Ramsey’s ilk.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Merseysiders are one of a select few sides in the Premier League unlikely to go down but ultimately unlikely to sustain a challenge to the top teams, although the Toffees will surely have ambitions of breaking into the top six in the near future.

And in throwing £100 million at it last summer, and a sizable amount again this summer, it’s clear that the financial resources are there to take the club forward - and in manager Silva, owner Farhad Moshiri appears to have the man he wants to move the club to the next level.

Yet early indications suggest that the Toffees remain some way off those elite sides, but the addition of Arsenal’s Ramsey, a mainstay in the Gunners team in recent times, would certainly help them with their goals.

The Welshman made the move to North London over a decade ago and while things didn’t go particularly well for him in his early Arsenal career, he has since become a hugely influential figure in the Gunners side, not least last season in scoring 11 goals and laying on 12 assists in all competitions.

And with two other seasons in which he has netted at least ten goals, it’s clear that Ramsey is an accomplished and proven performer at Premier League level - there’s a reason he won Arsenal’s Player of the Season award last season.

As such, he is exactly the calibre of player Everton should be looking to sign.

He is currently playing in a top six side, and he is contributing to a top six side - if the Toffees want to be a top six side, weakening a top six rival and strengthening themselves is surely a step in the right direction.

And given the struggles Everton appear to have had in the midfield ranks in recent times, Ramsey’s arrival would go some way to addressing those issues too.

Thus, with the 27-year-old’s future seemingly away from the Emirates Stadium, Everton must seek to launch a move for the midfielder, especially if they do indeed harbour ambitions of challenging the top six.
