Everton will be forced to sell in order to buy during the January transfer window according to Marco Silva.
The Toffees completed plenty of fantastic business during the summer window to bring the likes of Richarlison, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes to Goodison Park. Working with new director of football, Marcel Brands, the former Watford boss completely overhauled the Blues squad. However, the Blues have failed to meet expectations this season following a dismal run of form over the festive period.
Plenty of players have been linked with a move to Merseyside but Silva admitted in his recent press conference that players would have to leave in order to accommodate new arrivals. Removing some of the deadwood in the squad could provide Silva will some valuable funds to help get Everton’s season back on track.
One man he should target is Inter Milan attacker – Ivan Perisic. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the Croatia international has been one of the top performers in Italy for a number of years after joining from Wolfsburg back in 2015. The 29-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and reports from Calcio Mercato suggest that the Italian giants are set to cash in on the winger in order to fund a move for Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.
Perisic can play right across the forward line and would give Silva a significant upgrade on Theo Walcott in the final third. Comfortable on either foot, the forward has an eye for a goal and excellent vision – his arrival could help get the best out of Cenk Tosun in the attack. The ex-Dortmund man has a large frame and a decent strength meaning dealing with the physicality of the Premier League shouldn’t be an issue.
Landing Perisic could be the statement signing Everton need to secure a return to Europe.
