Everton still need to make squad improvements if they want to gain consistency during the second half of the Premier League season.
Even though they spent a lot over the summer, more signings in January could see the Toffees surge into the top six quite easily.
Marco Silva is a top manager but even he will be frustrated with the lack of consistency Everton have had at times this season.
Having conceded 29 times in 19 games this season, Everton’s problem area has quite obviously been in defence.
Silva has been mixing with different options but none have bagged themselves a permanent spot in the starting line-up.
In a bid to solve that, Everton should go all-out for Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles in January.
Lascelles, (who is valued at £13.5 million on Transfermarkt) is exactly the defender Everton need in defence to solve their fragilities.
Big money summer signing Yerry Mina will take time to fully adjust to life at Goodison Park but a long-term partner for him could be found in Newcastle’s lynchpin.
With 15 appearances under his belt this season, Lascelles has again demonstrated his leadership skills and ability to lead his side from the back.
Newcastle are not a team going anywhere good anytime soon but Everton, are a team on the rise under Marco Silva, making it a great move for Lascelles to contemplate.
At 25 now, it could be the right time for Jamaal Lascelles to move away from St James’ Park, opting for a more ambitious club instead.
Everton could be the right move for him and he could better Marco Silva’s current defensive options.
