Everton should be targeting a new forward when the January transfer window reopens.

There were massive changes at Goodison Park over the summer following a dreadful 2017/18 campaign. Sam Allardyce was replaced with Marco Silva, and the Blues added a number of players to their playing squad. Owner Farhad Moshiri increased his stake in the club and many board members also left the Merseyside club.

Despite the changes behind the scenes, Everton are yet to benefit on the field with Silva’s side falling short of expectations so far. One area of concern for the Portuguese boss will be attack and the form of Cenk Tosun. The Turkish forward hasn’t found the back of the net since March, and a new striker should be on Silva’s shortlist in January.

The ideal addition to his squad could be Leicester forward – Jamie Vardy. Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the England international was crucial to the Foxes’ historic title win back in 2016. However, the 31-year-old has proven he was not a one-season wonder and hit 20 Premier League goals for Claude Puel last season; the third campaign in a row he netted double figures.

A cunning forward, Vardy would slot seamlessly into the Everton attack alongside Richarlison and Theo Walcott. He loves making intelligent runs on the shoulder of the defender which would have Gylfi Sigurdsson licking his lips. Vardy is also a clinical finisher which would help Everton increase their goal tally.

If Everton want to qualify for Europe again, this is a move they should seriously consider.
