Everton should be looking to upgrade their options at right-back during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Toffees have made a decent start to life under Marco Silva, currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table. However, one man has struggled since the Portuguese replaced Sam Allardyce in the summer. Seamus Coleman has been a mainstay in the Everton defence for a number of years now, but his performances have been a cause for concern this season.

The Irishman was expected to flourish in Silva’s attacking system, but Coleman has been a liability in the back four. The 30-year-old has been completely overshadowed by Lucas Dinge on the opposite flank, and with Jonjoe Kenny failing to offer much competition, a new right-back is needed at Goodison Park.

The ideal replacement for Coleman would be Strasbourg full-back – Kenny Lala. Valued at just £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman has developed into a crucial player for his side since joining from Lens on a free transfer last summer. Lala made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 last year but has truly taken his game to the next level in the current campaign.

Like Coleman once was, Lala is a constant attacking threat from the back, helping his side’s cause with an incredible three goals and four assists this season. If Everton signed a striker in January, the 27-year-old would provide plenty of ammunition, averaging 1.5 successful crosses per game this season. Despite his attacking prowess, Lala doesn’t neglect his defensive duties, averaging a remarkable 2.7 tackles per game in the league.

With his contract expiring next summer, Everton would be able to secure his services for a great price. Just like Coleman, Lala could prove to be a bargain for the Toffees.
