According to a recent report from The Daily Mail, Krzysztof Piatek could be set for a move away in this month’s transfer window. The 23-year-old currently plays his football in Italy with top-flight outfit Genoa and has done so since leaving Cracovia last summer, with his impressive goal-scoring exploits in Serie A seemingly attracting some interest from the Premier League.

And that’s because reports suggest that Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham are interested in the £13.5 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) as a possible replacement for Marko Arnautovic, as should Everton manager Marco Silva as he seeks to land the number nine he so desperately needs at Goodison Park.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Everton have been struggling in the striking department pretty much ever since they let Romelu Lukaku leave for Manchester United back in 2017, with former boss Ronald Koeman seeking to compensate for that exit by sealing a bargain deal for Sandro Ramirez in that window.

Yet the Spaniard proved to be nowhere near the level required, failing to net in the Premier League for the Toffees, and Koeman’s successor Sam Allardyce then had a go himself at solving the striking woes by spending big money on Cenk Tosun this time last year - that also has not gone to plan.

And that has left new manager Silva, who replaced the sacked Allardyce during the summer, with a very depleted forward department consisting of players that simply aren’t good enough to lead the Everton line - Richarlison, a winger who signed from Watford during the close season, is the man Silva has selected as his number nine for much of the season so far.

Yes, the Brazil international has done well during that time, but it’s clear he isn’t the long-term answer to their striking problem - 23-year-old Piatek could be though.

And that’s because the Poland international has been scoring goals for fun in the last few years, netting 19 times in just 21 games in all competitions for Genoa this season, 13 of which coming in Serie A to place him second in the division’s goal-scoring charts behind Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.

Add in the 21 goals he bagged in his homeland for Cracovia last term, and the 11 for the Polish side the season before, and Piatek has showcased his goal-scoring exploits to great effect in the last couple of seasons to suggest that he could be Silva’s perfect number nine at Everton.

At six foot tall, the 23-year-old has the aerial presence and strength needed to dominate opposition centre backs and get on the end of crosses from out wide, yet he also makes great runs in-behind to latch onto through balls - Gylfi Sigurdsson could have a field-day seeking to pick out the Poland international were he to join.

Clearly then, with Everton seriously struggling in the striking ranks, even more so now given Oumar Niasse has joined Cardiff City on loan for the rest of the season, Silva simply has to bring in a number nine this month if he is to take the Toffees forward in 2019 - and beating West Ham to Piatek might just give him that striker he so desperately needs.
