Everton supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last couple of days after seeing their team only muster a 0-0 draw with a much-changed Liverpool side in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their meeting with their city neighbours off the back of losing 3-1 to Manchester City in their previous league outing, whom Liverpool then battered 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final a few days later. And the return leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday certainly seemed to be in Jurgen Klopp’s thoughts as he made several changes to his team for the trip to Goodison Park at the weekend, yet Allardyce’s men were unable to take advantage in only drawing 0-0 with their bitter rivals.
As such, there have been many frustrated Toffees fans in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom were disappointed with Saturday’s result, but are already turning their attentions to their club’s trip to Swansea City this coming weekend.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Evertonians to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking their side with a move for Watford forward Richarlison this summer.
And while landing the 20-year-old is likely to be well received by Everton fans, the Brazilian’s arrival could spell seriously bad news for £6.3 million-rated Toffees star Ademola Lookman (as per Transfermarkt).
Ultimately, the 20-year-old has found gametime hard to come by at Goodison Park since his move to the club back in January 2017, this all after bagging just minutes into his debut in their 4-0 rout of City on January 15.
Yet the England Under-20 World Cup winner has since added just 23 first team appearances for the Merseysiders of which just six have been starts, this despite their evident need for more flair and creativity in the final third in the first half of this season.
In fact, Lookman is so low down on the pecking order, even after Allardyce’s arrival as manager back in November, that he himself sought a loan move to RB Leipzig back in January, for whom he has done well with a goal and an assist in six appearances for the German outfit.
But with Theo Walcott arriving from Arsenal during the winter window, Yannick Bolasie returning to full fitness in recent months, and even Kevin Mirallas set to return to Everton in the summer, Lookman’s immediate prospects at Goodison Park do not look at all good.
And they would become even worse were Richarlison, scorer of five goals in the Premier League this season for Watford, to make the move to the blue half of Merseyside as well, especially with both being of the same age but ultimately the Brazilian proving his top-flight credentials more regularly so far in his career.
Thus, were Everton to indeed land the Hornets ace this summer, it could well spell bad news for Lookman in his bid to return to Goodison Park and stake a claim for a first team spot next season.
