Make no mistake, the last time Everton took on Chelsea, Dominic Calvert-Lewin absolutely battered the west London club.
He scored two goals in that 3-1 win at Goodison Park back in December and his overall centre-forward play caused Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen problems all afternoon.
Aerially, the 22-year-old was superb. According to WhoScored, he won 11 aerial duels, the most on the pitch. He finished the game as the website’s Man of the Match with a 9.3 match rating and came in for huge praise.
“I was hugely impressed with him [Calvert-Lewin] because he absolutely battered the two centre-halves, Zouma and Christensen, he didn’t give them a moment’s peace,” Alan Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day (via Football.London) after the match. “When you’re a forward, if you can’t win a header, then make sure the defender can’t win it either. He did it all afternoon.”
Has Dominic Calvert-Lewin replaced Romelu Lukaku?
This season, Chelsea’s defence has been leaky. They have conceded 39 goals in the Premier League, more than the likes of Arsenal, Wolves and Crystal Palace, and have kept just five clean sheets all campaign long — one of the worst records in the division.
Furthermore, the Blues look there for the taking if Calvert-Lewin can produce a similar performance to his one in the reverse fixture.
Everton fans, can Calvert-Lewin inflict more damage on Chelsea this afternoon? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
