Romelu Lukaku’s electric form of late has Everton fans both overjoyed and feeling a sense of despair here in the Transfer Tavern, with the Belgian firing their team up the Premier League table before his seemingly inevitable summer exit.
The 23-year-old boosted his claim for the division’s Golden Boot on the weekend as he hit his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, but having already reportedly told the club he will not extend his contract with them, a move at the end of the season seems likely.
And the Mirror (10/04/2017 P49) hint that plans are being drawn up for life without Lukaku, with Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia being looked at.
The Ivorian signed for the Villans from Bristol City at the start of the season and has hit 19 goals in 33 Championship outings – including six in his last five games amid a real purple patch of form.
The Mirror claim that Everton, as well as Stoke (both of whom looked at him around the time Villa snapped him up), are interested in the player, whom the Midlands club could struggle to keep hold of this summer given that promotion hopes at Villa Park were derailed by a poor mid-season run.
Kodjia, who stands at 6ft. 2”, is blessed with good pace and is known for his strength, making him a viable Lukaku replacement for Everton.
Romelu Lukaku is the perfect striker for Manchester United – agree?
