Everton supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side ease past Brighton 2-0 on Saturday to all but banish any lingering Premier League relegation fears.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their encounter with the in-form South Coast outfit having suffered defeats at the hands of both Watford and Burnley in their preceding league outings, results which brought the threat of relegation back into the fold. However, the Toffees moved ten points clear of the drop on Saturday as a Gaeton Bong own goal alongside Cenk Tosun’s first at Goodison Park clinched all three points for the Merseysiders, thus moving them back into the top half of the division with eight games to go.
As such, there have been many happy Evertonians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are sincerely hoping that their side can transfer their impressive home form into their travels, starting when they visit struggling Stoke City on Saturday.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Everton fans to discuss, not least the recent news that Southampton have sacked manager Mauricio Pellegrino with the club sat 17th in the Premier League table.
The 46-year-old replaced Claude Puel at St Mary’s during the summer but only led the side to five wins from 30 league games, with the final straw proving to be the Saints’ 3-0 loss at Newcastle United on Saturday.
And attentions are turning to who the South Coast club could look to appoint as Pellegrino’s successor, with many Everton fans saying the same thing on Twitter regarding who should take over at St Mary’s…
