Signing a new striker should be top of Marco Silva’s priority list in the January transfer window.

The Toffees have made a decent start to life under the Portuguese but need a new striker to get his system working effectively. £27m January recruit Cenk Tosun has scored just one goal since March and is not the regular goalscorer that Romelu Lukaku was during his time at Goodison Park. If the Blues want to end the season in a European place, they need to splash the cash on a new forward.

Silva has decided to use Richarlison as the central striker in recent weeks, but the Brazilian looks far better on the wing. To bring the best out of their record signing, Everton should make a move for Celta Vigo striker – Maximiliano Gomez. After a sensational season in La Liga, the forward did not make a move to a top European side, now is the time to bring him to the Premier League.

Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the Uruguay international joined Celta last summer and hit the ground running in Spain. The 22-year-old quickly became a crucial player for his club and ended the season on 19 goals and five assists in La Liga. Eager to prove he is not a one-season wonder, Gomez’s form has continued into the new campaign with four goals and four assists in just eight appearances already before an injury hampered his progress.

Gomez fits the mould of Lukaku perfectly and would be an excellent addition to the Everton forward line. A strong striker who excels as a target man, he is ideal for Silva’s system at Goodison Park. The youngster can hold the ball up and bring others into the game but also possesses brilliant finishing ability. Gomez is also a massive threat in the air, winning an incredible 5.1 aerial duels per game this season (WhoScored).

Still improving and developing, Everton need to snap him up quickly before one of Europe’s biggest clubs beat them to it.
