Maxi Gomez the final piece of Everton’s jigsaw

Maxi Gomez the final piece of Everton’s jigsaw

After strengthening heavily in the summer transfer window, Marco Silva likely already has his eye cast over another signing in January.

Once again, Everton added lots of quality to their side before the start of the season. It didn’t work out for the Toffees last season, with big money signings flopping. Marco Silva will be hoping his imports make a big difference this season.

Everton added three in a very strong end to the summer window. Yerry Mina joined for £27.2m from Barcelona, and Andre Gomes on-loan, also from the Catalan giants, for a £2.02m loan fee. Everton also secured Brazilian 25-year-old winger Bernard on a 4-year-deal from Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine. This comes after the Toffees signed Richarlison from Watford, for an initial fee of £35m.

All in all, it looks a strong transfer window for Marco Silva’s side. They have added real quality in addition to an already strong squad. They left much of their business late, but it is business that will give fans of the club major belief they can push for European competition.

Everton’s permanent spend on transfers this summer has been £86m. This is yet another major show of ambition from Everton in the transfer market. Given the high spend, Marco Silva will probably just want to make one more quality addition in January.

With that in mind, Marco Silva should think about signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo.

The 21-year-old has an excellent goal scoring record in La Liga for the Galicians. The young Uruguayan scored at a rate of nearly one goal in every two games for the club last season, despite his tender age. He is already a senior Uruguay international. At his young age, Gomez has the potential to get even better and could become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

The Celta Vigo forward is valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt.

If Silva makes just one addition in January, he should go all out to bring Gomez to Goodison Park.
