According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Everton are eyeing up a move for midfielder Tanguy N’Dombele. The 21-year-old currently plays his football at French giants Lyon and has done so since moving there on loan back in the summer of 2017, with his impressive displays for the Ligue 1 outfit seemingly attracting interest around the continent.

And that’s because reports suggest that Everton manager Marco Silva is interested in a move for the France international, mainly as a result of his uncertainty surrounding the capabilities of Morgan Schneiderlin, with the Toffees boss reportedly unconvinced by the midfielder.

And with the Frenchman struggling for regular football at Goodison Park, time appears to be up on his Everton career, which is why he absolutely has to seek a move away in the New Year.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, it was former boss Ronald Koeman who brought the 29-year-old to the blue half of Merseyside back in January 2017, what with the midfielder struggling to produce the goods at Manchester United in his time there between 2015 and 2017.

In fact, the Toffees splashed out £20.61 million (as per Transfermarkt) on the ex-Southampton man in a bid to solve their midfield woes, and early indications suggested that he may do just that with several impressive displays in the second half of the 2016/17 season.

However, just when it looked like the France international was getting back to the form that earned him a big money move to United back in 2015, he struggled to replicate that under Koeman last time round as, although he eventually finished the season with 30 Premier League appearances to his name, he really didn’t excel in the heart of the Toffees midfield.

And that was evidenced even more during the summer following the arrival of new boss Silva, what with the Portuguese bringing Barcelona man Andre Gomes to Goodison Park to strengthen his midfield options - that was the clearest indication that Schneiderlin simply wasn’t up to the job.

And while the 41-year-old did give the Frenchman a chance to impress at the start of the season, he simply didn’t do enough alongside Idrissa Gueye to convince of his capabilities, hence he hasn’t appeared in any of their last five Premier League matchday squads.

And with Silva reportedly keen on another central midfielder in 21-year-old N’Dombele, 29-year-old Schneiderlin is clearly not the man the Portuguese wants in the centre of his midfield - time is surely up on his Everton career.

Thus, having spent so much on a player Koeman thought would help end their midfield issues, Schneiderlin will likely go down as a shocking signing from the Dutchman (albeit he certainly isn’t the only one to fall into that category) as, but for a few decent displays here and there, he simply hasn't lived up to expectation, or indeed his price-tag.

Either way, the Frenchman really does need to leave Goodison Park for the sake of his career come the New Year.
