Everton fans are already fed up here in the Tavern and especially with new boss Sam Allardyce failing to deliver results, which has compiled a miserable season for the Toffees. Although they’re mid-table in the league, after spending over £150 million in the summer, most would hope for at least a push for Europe.
One particular downfall in their side would be their inability to defend well and stop the flurry of goals being conceded. Jordan Pickford has done his best in goal but players like Ashley Williams and Michael Keane in front of him are not helping in the slightest, partly the reason Everton finds themselves in the position they are.
Arsenal have faced similar defensive problems but one defender who is constantly overlooked by Arsene Wenger is Callum Chambers, valued at £12.60 million on Transfermarkt. Versatile Chambers could be deployed anywhere across the back-line and even as a defensive midfielder protecting the back four. Having only made 14 appearances this season for the Gunners, Chambers has the quality to play week-in, week-out and moving to Everton could bless him with that opportunity.
Everton desperately need to improve their defensive mistakes if they want to return to their former selves, the team that were capable of challenging for European football. Chambers is still only 23-years-old and under the right guidance, he could drastically improve the Toffees.
Given how badly Everton have been this season, new defenders this summer are essential and with Chambers still at the young age with the potential to blossom, replacing the poor Ashley Williams with the Arsenal outcast would be shrewd business from Everton.
