Everton are quickly getting involved with transfer business as Marco Silva eyes a top squad that he can lead back into European contention.

That dream isn't close to reality right now as Everton since their outstanding 22-0 friendly victory, have been struggling to conjure up any kind of result against lower opposition, having been torn apart defensively last night by Blackburn in their 3-0 loss.

The defence has been a major position of concern for Everton over the last 12 months and with little time remaining in the transfer window, the Toffees have to think fast and establish a top defender to stabilise them at the back, someone like Niklas Stark, who is valued at £13.5 million on Transfermarkt.

Despite Michael Keane having been signed for a rather hefty fee last summer, the Englishman hasn't lived up to the form he previously showed with Burnley. Keane is not the only one playing badly though, as Ashley Williams has been a lot worse. Considering how important he was to Swansea, many thought it would be a great signing for Everton but in reality, he has struggled immensely, therefore showing the need for a top defender like Niklas Stark.

The Hertha Berlin defender made 26 Bundesliga appearances last season in both centre-back and as a defensive midfielder. At 23, the young German is impressively showing off his ability to be versatile and adaptable depending on how his team want to play.

Everton would also welcome another midfield signing so Niklas Stark is a great way to kill two birds with one stone. The Toffees are yet to put their foot down in the transfer market but when a young talented German defender could be persuaded to the Premier League, Everton must do all they can to secure his signature.
