Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are rather divided at the moment, following news of a January bid for their former striker Wayne Rooney.
The England skipper earned his footballing education on Merseyside, rising through the youth ranks at Goodison Park before netting 17 times at senior level.
He then left for Manchester United as a teenager but after becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer earlier this season, Rooney has been tipped to move onto pastures new at the end of the campaign.
Mirror Football claim the Toffees launched an ‘audacious bid’ to re-sign their former youngster during the January transfer window and will now ‘review’ whether it’s worth reviving their interest at the end of the season.
But not every Evertonian in the Transfer Tavern is sold by the idea. Those at the bar reckon it would be great to see Rooney back at Goodison; but those sipping ale in the basement believe the 31-year-old is past it and would be a burden on the wage bill.
Thus, our landlord’s pretty confused over whether Everton fans actually want Rooney back, or if it’s just a theory put forward by the press.
So hoping to disprove or prove it once and for all, Transfer Tavern are asking our Everton readers to vote for whether Rooney’s a wanted man.
