Everton supporters have been pretty quiet in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side produce a largely uninspiring display to only draw 1-1 with Swansea City in the Premier League last weekend.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the relegation-threatened Swans off the back of drawing 0-0 with Liverpool in their previous league encounter, yet having won their last away match courtesy of a 2-1 success at Stoke City in mid-March. And the Merseysiders looked set for back-to-back away wins when a Kyle Naughton own goal gave them the lead, only for Jordan Ayew to net 19 minutes from time to clinch a crucial point for Carlos Carvalhal’s side, in turn leaving Everton ninth in the table.
Subsequently, there have been many frustrated Evertonians in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are hoping their side can get back to winning ways when they host Newcastle United on Monday.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Toffees supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Morgan Schneiderlin could seek to leave the club for Marseille in the future.
And given his frankly disappointing and below-par efforts for the Toffees this season, the Merseyside outfit should seek to get rid of the £18 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) during the summer window.
Ultimately, the France international made the move to Goodison Park back in January 2017 after falling down the pecking order at Manchester United, and early indications suggested that he would be an asset for Everton given his performances in the early stage of his Toffees career.
However, the 28-year-old has been unable to maintain that high level this season, with many Everton fans in the Tavern conveying their dismay when the former Southampton midfielder is again named in Allardyce’s starting eleven.
Idrissa Gueye is comfortably the best central midfielder at Goodison Park, but Schneiderlin hasn’t done enough this season to suggest that he is the best person to play alongside the Senegal international, with Tom Davies and Wayne Rooney also trying their hand in that position.
Ultimately, the Frenchman offers and has offered next to nothing in the Toffees side this term – he isn’t a great tackler and hasn’t had much endeavour to get the ball forward and launch attacks this season, it has all been quite pedestrian.
And with reports suggesting that he is considering quitting Everton for Marseille in the future, the Merseysiders should seek to make that happen sooner rather than later.
