Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly feeling confident ahead of next season with this year suggesting that they are on the horizon of good times under Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees had been going around in the doldrums under Roberto Martinez towards the end of his tenure but Dutchman Koeman has certainly seized the initiative in his first season in charge and exciting times seem to await.
Indeed, that will be further boosted by signing good quality players in the summer window and whilst we wait to see who comes in, we reckon Michael Keane would be perfect for the developing side.
There can be no doubt that the Blues need extra options at the back.
Whilst Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka have got plenty of experience neither has many years left at this level and, with the latter in particular, the amount of game time they can play is going to decrease.
Ramiro Funes Mori, meanwhile, still has question marks over his ability to play for the club whilst the likes of Mason Holgate and Tyias Browning at the back have much to learn.
What the club needs, then, is a man in the middle of the spectrum – like Funes Mori in terms of age – but with a real sense of assurance over his performance levels.
Keane, then, seems a perfect fit.
He’s put in a stellar performance this season and would surely improve further under Ronald Koeman making this deal seem like a good idea.
