Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting a number of players to be added this summer – however, they may miss out on one possible target.
The Toffees will be busy searching for a new manager after releasing Sam Allardyce earlier in the week, but it is not thought to slow down their transfer plans during the window, which will shut before the start of the season.
And, according to a report from Sampdorianews.net (via Calcio Mercato), they may have been dealt with some frustrating news in trying to convince Lucas Torreira to join them from Sampdoria, as the Uruguayan midfielder has admitted that he is happy in Italy and is not sure if he is ready to commit to a big club.
The 22-year-old has impressed with the Serie A outfit this season, having become a first-team regular, leading to interest from Everton and others across Europe, but this latest revelation would suggest that the managerless Toffees may have to turn their transfer attentions away from the midfielder.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Everton fans will be disappointed that one of their transfer targets could become unrealistic now, having spent months tracking him about a possible switch.
The South American, who has been likened to Marco Verratti in the past, is thought to have a low release clause of €25 million, but the news that he is not ready to quit Sampdoria could prove to be a huge blow to those on Merseyside as they seek reinforcements to better their underwhelming eighth place finish this time round.
