Most speculation surrounding Everton this summer has involved the club signing a left-back and centre-back. The Daily Mirror reports the Toffees are weighing up a bid for Celtic wonderkid Kieran Tierney, while links to central defender Domagoj Vida won't got away. And now, according to the Daily Star, Everton are also expressing an interest in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek – a player the club must try to sign at all costs.

The Breakdown

Assessing Everton's squad, one area that could do with some improvements is in midfield. Bar Idrissa Gueye, the Toffees do not boast the greatest of midfield options, or at least for a team that aspires to be in the Champions League.

Morgan Schneiderlin's expected departure from Goodison Park, as reported by the Daily Star, also increases the chance of room opening up for another midfielder to be brought in.

If Everton's interest in £13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Loftus-Cheek is serious, the club has to see off what will likely be competition from plenty of other Premier League sides.

According to the Telegraph, while Loftus-Cheek isn't for sale, Chelsea may make the 22-year-old available for loan. Whether it's on a short term or long-term deal, Everton's midfield could definitely do with someone of Loftus-Cheek's profile.

Loftus-Cheek, who is currently and has impressed with the England World Cup squad at the World Cup in Russia, could form a strong partnership with Gueye in the middle of the park and overall, add power and technical skill to the Everton side.

It won't be the easiest of deals to pull off, especially if it's on a permanent basis. But if Everton are interested in signing a midfielder this summer, then the club must chuck everything at Chelsea for Loftus-Cheek.
