The Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been buoyed by two wins on the bounce.
Indeed, while it’s been by no means a vintage campaign for the Toffees in the Tavern despite a big summer spend, beating Sunderland and Bournemouth consecutively has lightened the mood somewhat.
So, reports from the Daily Mail have gone a storm today.
They claim the club are preparing a new contract for midfield lynchpin, Idrissa Gueye. Signed from Aston Villa over a year ago now, the Senegalese has impressed at the heart of Ronald Koeman’s midfield since arriving on Merseyside.
Over the course of the summer, the 28-year-old was touted as a potential target for Chelsea, though ultimately remained with his current employers, much to the delight of our resident Evertonians. With that in mind, top brass at the club are believed to be eager to ward-off any potential interest in him by offering terms that’d take the player to the levels of a top earner.
As you can imagine, the Toffees in our Tavern have been happy to hear such reports.
