Everton finally got the man they courted last year in Marco Silva but so far for the Toffees, they’ve had a fairly average start to the season despite beating Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Over the summer the Merseyside club spent heavily and brought in a whole host of recruits to improve a squad that performed poorly last year. With the likes of Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Richarlison arriving at the club, it was thought that Marco Silva would push them towards Europe once again.
As it stands, the Toffees sit eighth in the table. Despite playing Richarlison up front in recent weeks, Everton don’t really have a frontline scorer and have to rely on their midfield for goals.
Over the summer, Wayne Rooney left the club to move to MLS side, DC United. While the long-time midfielder had a relatively poor season with Everton, he’s had somewhat of a career resurgence in America and has so far scored 12 goals to go with six assists.
While some may argue that Rooney is far past his best and that the MLS is a fairly below par league, to have the former Manchester United man in the squad could have proved to be invaluable for Silva, at least in his first season for the club.
As we have seen in his short time in the MLS, he has the ability to score goals, create them while also being a superb passer of the ball. Moreoverer, he could have played in multiple positions which would have proved vital for Silva.
Everton fans, do you agree?
