Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the new era at their football club following the appointment of Marco Silva as the new Toffees manager.
The 40-year-old had been out of work since losing his job at Watford back in January, with the Hornets laying the blame firmly at the feet of Everton for their approaches for the Portuguese in the aftermath of their decision to sack Ronald Koeman. Nonetheless, the Toffees now have their man after parting with Sam Allardyce last month, despite the Englishman leading the Merseysiders to eighth place in the Premier League table.
Thus, attentions are now turning towards what additions Silva could make to the Everton squad, with many hoping that the former Watford chief raids his ex-employers to bring £4.5 million-rated star Nathaniel Chalobah (as per Transfermarkt) to Goodison Park.
Ultimately, the 23-year-old endured a testing campaign at the Hertfordshire-based outfit following his permanent move there last summer, with the midfielder earning just six Premier League appearances for the club after undergoing a knee operation back in September.
However, it was clear from his starts in their first five games of the campaign that he was highly-rated by Silva and someone the Portuguese wanted in the centre of his midfield – he also did a decent job in helping the Hornets to two wins and two draws in those five matches.
And with Everton seemingly struggling for a partner for Idrissa Gueye, the former England Under-21 international could be the ideal man.
Ultimately, the Senegal international is the best central midfielder at Goodison Park, but both Koeman and Allardyce chopped and changed the other midfield options to try and find the best to play with the 28-year-old in the middle of the park.
Morgan Schneiderlin may well have finished the season strongly, but prior to that he was far from his best, while Wayne Rooney struggled somewhat with the demands of a more defensive-minded role, to the point that he was twice substituted before the hour mark in key games against Liverpool and Manchester City.
And with Tom Davies arguably better slightly further forward as well, Silva may look at the central midfield department and feel that more is needed to take the club to the next level next season. And Chalobah could be his man.
Be it on the ball looking for the front men and thus launching attacks, or indeed off it in breaking up play and making tackles and interceptions, the 23-year-old has it all, and looks set for a very bright future in the game.
Thus, the ex-Watford boss should seek to raid his former club for the young Englishman, as doing so would give him the ideal Gueye partner as his next employers Everton.
