Everton haven’t been able to reach top gear in the current campaign as they continue to throw away promising positions in matches.
The Toffees will still have their sights set on securing a European place, despite their failure to secure maximum points in recent times. Indeed, Marco Silva has struggled to get the very best out of his side but he does have a few more players to welcome into the team after the international break, so perhaps things will change for the better.
Worryingly, the Portuguese boss has made a number of debatable decisions on the tactical front and involving matchday selection, which has already caused problems this season.
With that being said, here’s a look at TWO of Silva’s biggest blunders…
Summer signing Kurt Zouma has been in the Toffees’ matchday squads since their second game of the season against Southampton, but he was only gifted his first start last time out against Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park.
Indeed, Marco Silva’s lack of confidence to gift Zouma a chance in the starting lineup has caused problems for Everton in the current campaign as Michael Keane has looked vulnerable at times.
But, with the Englishman suffering an injury recently it meant that Zouma was given a chance in the starting lineup, and it’s fair to say that he didn’t pass up the opportunity as he put in an inspired performance.
Everton have encountered a few problems from zonal marking so far this season, which can be put entirely down to the decision-making of Marco Silva.
The Blues have conceded three goals from corners in the current campaign as the squad get used to a new way of defending.
Of course, you can always work on it during training and continue to try and improve and get better, but if the specific tactic is causing problems on the field then there needs to be a change.
