Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for the club to improve on this season’s efforts, and will certainly be expecting a number of changes in the summer.
The Toffees have endured a disappointing campaign as they were fighting relegation for much of it, despite having aims at the beginning of the year of challenging for a European football spot.
The locals in the bar would have felt that the side were capable of achieving those ambitions, with the amount of money spent on new recruits, however they failed to make the desired impact. One man who came back to Goodison Park was Wayne Rooney – however, according to recent reports, he could be set to leave Merseyside once again.
And that’s because The Washington Post are reporting that the former England international is in advanced talks to sign with MLS outfit DC United, as he looks for a change after seemingly becoming frustrated at his boyhood team.
It is believed the American side will need to try and negotiate a transfer fee with Everton, with the 32-year-old currently valued at £13.5 million (as per Transfermarkt) – thus, it’s very plausible that a summer departure could be in the offing for England’s record goal-scorer.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Everton fans in the Tavern will be disappointed it has not quite worked out for the fan-favourite during his second spell at the club.
However, a number of the punters will realise he is starting to get on and will want the side to use a younger approach as they challenge for European football next season.
