The Argentine midfielder that Everton should swoop for if key man departs

Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, if there’s one rumour that the Everton punters just won’t see go away then it is Ross Barkley’s departure out of Goodison Park.

Not for the good reasons, however, as the 23-year-old is failing to live up to expectations in what has been classed as an unsatisfactory performance from the England international this season.

And, recently Everton manager Ronald Koeman has prompted the attacking midfielder to make a decision on his future. Whether that be sign a new deal on Merseyside, with the manager setting a deadline of next week, or pack his bags and go.

Supporters by the bar have been discussing this topic and fully expect him to depart, but who would they have as an ideal replacement at Goodison Park?

The one name that keeps popping up his Argentine Manuel Lanzini of West Ham United who is just one year older than Ross Barkley and is well-adapted to fill the void if he did quit.

The Hammers’ midfielder has become a firm fan favourite in east London, which must mean he’s doing something right, with his eight goals and two assists this season. Another positive to this is the fact Lanzini will surely only cost a fraction of Barkley’s asking price.

Our landlord thinks he’d be welcome to leave the London Stadium if Everton lodged a good enough bid and it really is a no-brainer according to the Football Transfer Tavern’s Toffees-mad¬†punters.

Everton fans, would you welcome Lanzini as an ideal replacement? Do you think Barkley will sign that new deal? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!
