According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, Olivier Giroud could be set for a move away in the near future. The 32-year-old currently plays his football at Premier League giants Chelsea having made the move there from Arsenal back in January of this year, yet he hasn’t been a regular at Stamford Bridge to thus plunge his future at the club into doubt.

And reports suggest that West Ham are one side keen on a move for the France international, yet Everton manager Marco Silva is another who must seek to make a move for the striker, whose contract expires in the summer, with the door thus seemingly ajar for the Toffees to finally land the man capable of replacing the Everton goals of Romelu Lukaku.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Merseysiders sold Lukaku to Manchester United back in the summer of 2017 and have since failed to adequately replace the striker’s goals, with the likes of Cenk Tosun, Oumar Niasse, and Sandro Ramirez simply not up to the job - the latter has been shipped out on loan this season to underline his lowly position in the pecking order.

Yet with the rest of the team beginning to take shape with defensive reinforcements in the form of Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina, and Kurt Zouma, alongside the likes of Theo Walcott, Richarlison, and Bernard down the flanks, all that appears to be missing is that number nine to put the ball in the back of the net, just like Lukaku did on 87 occasions for the club.

And Chelsea’s Giroud could well be that man, as the 32-year-old has a remarkably strong goal-scoring record from his time in English football, which many just overlook, while he also has the all round game that would complement the other forwards at Goodison Park.

The striker has bagged 76 goals in 200 Premier League appearances during his career and netted at least 11 in all five of his full seasons in the top-flight during his time at Arsenal, exceeding the 20-goal mark on two occasions.

Yes, things don’t appear to be happening for him at Chelsea with no goals in seven appearances under Maurizio Sarri this season, but the Frenchman was extremely prolific during his time at Arsenal and didn’t really get the credit for it - significantly, he also has the all round game that could seriously benefit Everton.

Giroud is very strong aerially and often dominates opposition centre backs from crosses and set plays, which can only be good news for messrs Walcott and Richarlison, while he also takes up excellent positions in the final third to give himself the opportunity of a strike - Gylfi Sigurdsson would no doubt be able to find him with his level of skill in that area of the pitch.

Thus, it’s clear that if Silva is to take Everton forward in the coming years, he needs a prolific number nine leading the line, but also someone who is able to bring the best out of those around him - Giroud appears to be the answer, an answer the Toffees sought last summer but ultimately weren't able to get over the line.

Yet, with the Frenchman’s future at Chelsea hugely uncertain, what with his contract up in the summer, the Toffees must seek to make a move for the man that could finally help them to replace the void left by United’s Lukaku.
