Everton supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team record just a second away Premier League victory of the season courtesy of a hard-fought 2-1 success at Stoke City on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their meeting with the relegation-threatened Potters having won just one of their preceding 15 away games in the league this term, a stretch of matches which saw the Merseysiders pick up a paltry eight points. However, the Toffees finally managed a second victory on the road on Saturday as a Cenk Tosun brace either side of an Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting equaliser saw off Paul Lambert’s struggling Stoke, thus moving Everton to 40 points for the campaign and 12 points clear of the bottom three.
Subsequently, there have been many delighted Evertonians in the Tavern in the last few days, several of whom are hoping their side can build some much-needed momentum between now and the end of the season, which would in turn set them up perfectly for the 2018/19 campaign.
In the meantime though, there has been some disappointing injury news coming out of the club, as midfielder Idrissa Gueye looks set to miss the next few weeks with a muscle injury.
The 28-year-old has missed just four of Everton’s 31 Premier League games this season to underline his importance in Allardyce’s squad, with it pretty clear that the Senegal international is the number one central midfielder at Goodison Park.
However, comments from Gueye’s national team manager Aliou Cisse state that the former Aston Villa man will be out for ‘three weeks’, which is sure to come as a blow to manager Allardyce and indeed the club’s supporters.
And many of those Everton fans have taken to Twitter in recent times to name their replacement for the 28-year-old, with the overriding feeling that youngster Beni Baningime should be given the chance to replace the injured Gueye…
Baningime in for Gueye please.

Baningime should replace Gueye in the starting X1 for City/Liverpool. Schneiderlin is hopeless

Well with Gana injured let’s give Baningime another chance. Always impressed when given a go. Also good to see the young lads given a chance. #efc

Gotta go like for like, need a runner in that midfield and Baningime is similar to Gueye in that respect.
