These 2 January transfer mistakes could cost Everton this season

Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern were disappointed that Ronald Koeman didn’t bring in as many names as he shipped out in the January transfer window.

It’s been a relatively good start to 2017 for the Toffees. Unbeaten in the Premier League, the only loss Everton suffered in January was a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City which saw the Merseyside club knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round.

Although the results are going their way, though, January saw Everton get rid of several senior first-team players, such as Gerard Deulofeu, Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo.

Eveton’s biggest January signing, meanwhile, saw Morgan Schneiderlin make the short trip from Manchester to Merseyside for a fee that could rise to £24 million.

Other than this and Ademola Lookman, Everton didn’t really bring in as many players as the fans would have hoped to see. So let’s look at two mistakes Koeman made in the January window that could damage their season – according to our landlord…
