Time for Marco Silva to stick to his guns and build around Tom Davies

Time for Marco Silva to stick to his guns and build around Tom Davies

Although it is understandable that Everton boss Marco Silva is chopping and changing his team almost every weekend, given their poor form currently, the manager should be careful not to overdo it and rather stick with a certain formation and team heading forward.

Silva is clearly desperate to get his team back to winning ways but at the moment his decision to constantly ring the changes in attack doesn’t seem to be working.

The Toffees suffered a 1-0 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday but did create quite a few good opportunities to score.

The manager opted for Gylfi Sigurdsson on the left-wing instead of Bernard, while Richarlison was back on the right-flank instead of Theo Walcott, who started last week in the match against Manchester City.

Up-front, Silva also made another change by picking Cenk Tosun ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin again.

Going forward, the former Watford manager might want to settle a bit with this team that faced the Hornets over the weekend in order to get some consistency back into the team.

Given the pressure the club is under the moment, it might be his only option to see Everton pick up positive results again.

Sigurdsson looked lively on the left-flank, while Tosun also came close to finding the back of the net on more than one occasion.

Richarlison’s ability will always make him an important player for the club and his earlier goal-scoring form proved why Silva needs to pick him every weekend.

But, changing your wingers and striker every match will not help the club’s cause of trying to finish the season on the high.

The Merseyside club has dropped to ninth in the Premier League and are on the same points as Bournemouth who are 11th.

Three consecutive defeats have also added to the pressure of Silva’s position as the man in charge of the club.

The best thing for him to do now is to get a consistent team selection going and build his team around someone like Tom Davies who has been playing well under the circumstances in the centre of the pitch. An academy graduate, watching him flourish would get the fans back onside and could be a sure-fire way to relieve some of the pressure.
