This article forms part of our Total Duds feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how poorly a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how poor of a deal the club managed to achieve.
As far as debut seasons in the Premier League go, Italian striker Kean has not had the greatest. The former Juventus striker in truth, has barely been given a consistent chance at Goodison Park, making 23 league appearances, but starting only 17% of them.
One goal in those 23 appearances has left Everton fans wondering what the future holds for the 20-year-old at the club and with the summer transfer window fast approaching, Kean could be one the players that Carlo Ancelotti looks to sell.
Arriving in a high profile deal worth €30m (£26.2m) from Juventus, the two-time Serie A winner was expected to hand the Toffees with a regular income of goals, but troubles on and off the pitch have seen him flop.
In truth, a decision by caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson to substitute Kean after coming on as a substitute would have done little for the striker’s morale, but under fellow Italian Ancelotti, it was thought he would find some form.
That has not happened and question marks now remain over his future at Goodison Park, with the Daily Mail sharing a claim from Italian media outlet Tuttosport on Inter Milan’s supposed interest in signing the striker.
Despite suffering with poor form and minimal playing chances on Merseyside, Transfermarkt still value Kean at a whopping £22.5m, and that could pose quite an interest to sell. Given his failure to settle and contribute much, it might be wise for the Toffees to cut their losses on the striker and let him move on.
