Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking forward to the 2018/19 Premier League season following the appointment of Marco Silva as the club’s new manager earlier in the summer.
The 40-year-old replaced the sacked Sam Allardyce back in May following the Englishman’s departure at the end of last season, this all despite leading the Merseysiders to an eighth place finish in the league. However, he did so in a way that was unpopular among Everton fans who soon turned on the former England boss, with many now thrilled that ex-Hull City and Watford chief Silva will lead them into the new season.
Thus, there are many excited Toffees supporters up and down the country, several of whom are wondering what young talent could be available on loan this summer, what with Silva yet to actually make a signing since taking over at Goodison Park.
And based on his efforts for Crystal Palace last season, alongside how much he’d add to the current Everton squad, 20-year-old Manchester United sensation Timothy Fosu-Mensah could be the ideal addition.
Ultimately, the Netherlands international made the move to Old Trafford back in 2016 after beginning his youth career in his homeland, although it was with the Red Devils that the versatile defender made his senior debut back in February 2016.
Fosu-Mensah has since added a further 20 first team appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side to suggest that he is very much in the picture for regular football at the North West giants, although the fact he was shipped out on loan to Palace last season suggests that he still has a way to go.
Yet the 20-year-old was excellent for Roy Hodgson’s Eagles last term in appearing 21 times for the London outfit in the Premier League, with his versatility in particular apparent having deputised at both centre back and indeed right back over the course of the campaign.
And given his undoubted potential, alongside his capabilities to play centre back, right back, and indeed in a defensive midfield role, the Dutchman should seek to continue his development under Silva at Everton.
The Toffees were pretty poor at the back for the vast majority of last season and Silva could well be seeking to bring more youth into his backline, what with the likes of Ashley Williams, Leighton Baines, and Phil Jagielka very much in the twilight of their careers.
And with the central midfield department something of a problem for both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce last season, Fosu-Mensah’s arrival would give Silva another viable option in that position as well, thus significantly strengthening many areas of the squad in just one transfer.
Thus, there’s a 20-year-old sensation at United in the form of Fosu-Mensah, and he’d be absolutely ideal for Everton.
