This article forms part of our Valuation Evaluation feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at the increase or decrease of a player’s Transfermarkt valuation and whether it is justified or not.
Looking at his stats from this season, this has been a campaign where Gylfi Sigurdsson has really struggled at Everton.
In 26 Premier League appearances, the 30-year-old has only managed to score one goal. Furthermore, it is not hard to see why his market valuation is falling.
According to Transfermarkt, having been £31.5m before the start of this term, Sigurdsson’s market valuation now stands at £25.2m. Everton, however, would do well to get even that should they decide to sell him in the summer given his age and current output.
The Iceland international is currently averaging 1.5 shots per league game, down from his average of 2.3 shots per league game last term (via WhoScored). Bearing that in mind, and the fact that he has just the sole goal to his name despite it being March, he is unlikely to match the 13 goals he bagged in the previous campaign.
How much is Gylfi Sigurdsson worth?
£25m or more
Less than £25m
In 2019/20, Sigurdsson has also seen his dribbles per league game average drop. Having managed one a match last season, he is now averaging just 0.5.
Based on the above alone, it may be time for Everton to move the former Swansea City playmaker on. At 30 and clearly on the decline if this season is anything to go by, it is hard to see how Sigurdsson can be a part of Carlo Ancelotti’s revolution at Goodison Park.
