Mason Holgate has had a fairly strong campaign at Everton this season following a recent loan spell at West Brom.
Considering that, it is no surprise to see his market valuation jump in the manner that it has. According to Transfermarkt, having been worth £6.3m before the Premier League kicked off, Holgate now has a market valuation of £15.3m.
He is currently averaging 3.3 clearances per league game, the third-highest average in Everton’s squad, and is being dribbled past just 0.4 times (via WhoScored). The latter is roughly the same as fellow centre-backs Michael Keane (0.3) and Yerry Mina (0.2) and less than full-backs Lucas Digne (one) and Djibril Sidibe (1.3).
Holgate is clearly doing his part and Kevin Phillips has put that down to the time the 23-year-old spent at his former club, suggesting his spell at the Hawthorns has made him a better player.
“He is a good player, so it is a huge bonus,” the ex-Premier League striker told Football Insider earlier this month after Holgate put pen to paper on a new five-year deal.
How much is Mason Holgate worth?
£15m or more
Less than £15m
“He really benefited from his loan. Players need to go out and learn their trade and be put in a different environment and good players will come through it. He has certainly shown that the loan period has done that for him. Credit to him and the club.”
Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti looks to have a very capable defender on his hands. And with time to improve given his age, you would expect performances to get better while his stock increases further.
