It is no secret that Everton have been in dire need of a striker that can find the back of the net on a regular basis, however, it would appear that they have one in their youth ranks that could have a really bright future leading the line at Goodison Park.
Or at least, he might have, as a number of clubs are believed to be circling in on the exciting talent.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Sun, Ellis Simms has been attracting interest from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany whilst AS Monaco and Olympique de Lyonnais are keen on taking him to France.
And it is not hard to see why that interest exists, as the 18-year-old has already scored over 40 goals this season for the developmental side and has impressed Marco Silva with talk about a first-team debut potentially being in the offering very soon.
Everton have been desperate to solve their striker woes this season, with the likes of Sandro Ramirez, Oumar Niasse and Cenk Tosun having all arrived and failed to make an impression. However, it would appear Simms could be the man to help finally solve those concerns.
Having initially been signed from Manchester City, the teenager had struggled in his first year at the Merseyside club, however, he has shown that he is able to adapt and has a real knack of finding the back of the net.
It is understandable that many at the club would see Simms as one for the future and putting him in the first-team at this early stage could be career suicide for him, however, a certain Wayne Rooney made his mark at a very young age and went on to achieve wonderful things.
With some of Europe’s biggest clubs all interested in him, it might just be the right time for Silva to hand him a chance in the first-team to see what he can do and see if he has the potential to make the step up to senior football in the top-flight.
Otherwise, he could witness him go abroad and star out there, with the likes of Jadon Sancho showing what a move to a foreign club could do for a teenager and their careers.
Everton fans, do you think the club should do all they can to keep Simms at Goodison Park? Would you give him an opportunity to show what he can do in the first-team? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
