Everton’s hopes of signing Arsenal star dashed after odds slashed on striker’s return to France

Everton have quickly become the Premier League’s biggest spenders this summer as Ronald Koeman looks to build a team capable of challenging for the Champions League next season.

The Toffees fans lining the bar here in the pub have been delighted with Koeman’s start to the transfer window, as the Dutchman has spent over £90million in completely transforming the spine of the Toffees squad.

But the summer spending doesn’t look to have stopped there with Wayne Rooney expected to arrive in the coming days whilst a move for a certain Arsenal forward also remains in the balance.

The Toffees had been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud for a couple of weeks but their chances of bringing the French international to Goodison Park have been somewhat dashed as odds of a move back to France with Marseille have been slashed over the weekend.

Betfair were offering odds of 12/1 for the striker to return to France at the start of the weekend but these have now tumbled to 5/1 after a flurry of bets.

Everton still remain favourites to bring in the out-of-favour forward, with odds of around 5/4 available on Betfair for Koeman to bring him to Merseyside this summer.
