Everton have hit a real slump in form recently in the Premier League and could look to make changes in January.
The Toffees had a rather miserable festive period that saw them suffer four defeats in their last five games.
Marco Silva could look to make additions to his team in the winter as they look to rectify things, however, he could also be prepared to allow one of his fringe men to leave Goodison Park as well.
The 28-year-old has not yet featured for Silva since recovering from the double fracture to his right leg and appears to be out of favour with the Portuguese boss.
McCarthy certainly appears to be surplus to requirements at Everton under Silva and a loan move away from the club could be a great opportunity for the 28-year-old to get regular football once again.
Having arrived from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2013 for a fee of £13.77million (per Transfermarkt), the Roberto Martinez signing has played over 130 times for the Toffees.
He is not thought to be short of options and with a number of midfielders at Goodison Park already, a move in January could come to fruition.
