Everton’s midfield jigsaw won’t be complete until they make ambitious move for Watford lynchpin

Everton fans will be delighted with the way new boss Sam Allardyce has turned their side around in recent weeks, with the former Newcastle United manager guiding the Toffees away from the bottom-three and into the top-half following his arrival at the club.

The Evertonians here in The Transfer Tavern are very optimistic about their side’s future, and hope to see Allardyce continue to prove his worth in the current transfer window. Cenk Tosun has already been signed in a huge £27 million deal from Besiktas, but over several pints one evening, our landlord discovered that the Everton fans were a greedy bunch this month, with more signings desired. The club sold Ross Barkley last week to Chelsea, and fans are keen to see a midfield replacement brought in this month, with Watford man Abdoulaye Doucoure top of their new year wishlist.

The Frenchman has proven a revelation this season having returned to the club from a loan spell with Granada in Spain, scoring a wonderful six goals in the Premier League from his midfield berth. Doucoure has lit up the division with a number of fine strikes this semester, and interest in the 25-year-old is sure to build over the coming weeks and months. Idrissa Gueye is the stalwart of the Everton midfield, with Gylfi Sigurdsson the creative man in the middle, but Allardyce needs to add one more to the mix to ensure his midfield is complete. A box-to-box man with an unwavering engine, Doucoure is the perfect man for the job, and could be keen to head to the north west as he attempts to further his career in English football.

Everton failed to land Marco Silva from Watford last year in their attempt to replace former boss Ronald Koeman, but the club simply cannot afford to fail in another Vicarage Road raid, with Doucoure the perfect signing for Allardyce this month.
